Setting up an email inbox with a Shopify domain

If your domain is managed through Shopify, whether you bought it there or transferred it in, you can set up a working support inbox end to end without touching an external email provider: Voria creates the inbox, and Shopify handles both forwarding your support address and the DNS records that let you send from it.

Create your inbox

  1. Go to Settings → Inboxes and click Add inbox.
  2. Choose Email as the channel, then select Standard setup.
  3. Fill in Inbox name : a label for your team, e.g. “Support”.
  4. Fill in Support email : the address your customers email you at, e.g. [email protected].
  5. Fill in From name : the name customers will see when you reply, e.g. “Support Team”.
  6. Click Create inbox. Voria generates a unique forwarding address, something like [email protected], copy it, you’ll need it next.

Set up forwarding in Shopify

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Domains.
  2. Click the domain you want to forward from, e.g. yourstore.com.
  3. Under Email forwarding, click Add forwarding email address.
  4. In the first field, enter the address your customers will email, e.g. support (this becomes [email protected]).
  5. In Forwards to, paste the Voria forwarding address you copied.
  6. Click Save. Shopify starts forwarding immediately, no confirmation email required. Send a test email to your support address, it should appear as a new conversation in Voria within a few seconds.

Add your DNS records in Shopify

Forwarding alone gets incoming mail to Voria. So that replies you send from Voria actually arrive from [email protected] instead of landing in spam, add the DKIM and Return-Path records Voria shows you right after setting up forwarding.

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Domains → your domain → DNS settings.
  2. Click Add custom record and enter the DKIM record exactly as Voria shows it.
  3. Click Add custom record again for the Return-Path record.
  4. Back in Voria, click Verify DNS to confirm both records are live.

DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate, though they often take just a few minutes. Once Verify DNS passes, your inbox is fully set up.
